Marriage and Divorce statistics nationwide

Good to be back to kalamazoo after the trip to Seattle (attorney there), time to write he added.
As a whole, marriages are now at a record low, with just 52 percent of adults 18 and over saying they were joined in wedlock, compared with 57 percent in 2000, according to census data released last September. When in need of a Kalamazoo Divorce Attorney you will find them at Miller Law. All in all, this Kalamazoo Divorce attorney and also Michigan family law lawyer is top notch. The never-married included 46.3 percent of young adults 25-34 — the first time the share of never-married young adults exceeded those who were married, 44.9 percent, with the rest being divorced or widowed.
Marriages have been declining for years due to rising divorce, more unmarried couples living together and increased job prospects for women. But analysts say younger people also may now be increasingly choosing to delay marriage as they struggle to find work and resist making long-term commitments in the recent recession.
As to the age at first marriage, the Census Bureau found that men and women were now joining in wedlock later and across a greater range of ages.
For instance, in 1970, more than half of men, 57 percent, were between the ages of 20 and 24 when they first married. By 2009, the age distribution was much wider, with 24 percent marrying between the ages of 20 and 24, 34 percent marrying between the ages of 25 and 29, 20 percent marrying between the ages of 30 and 34, and 9 percent marrying between the ages of 35 and 39.
Similarly for women, in 1970, 42 percent of women were teens when they married, and by the age of 24 about 88 percent of women had a first marriage. By 2009, the shares had dropped to 7 percent and 38 percent, respectively. Seattle has also had it’s problems in this regard. This Seattle divorce attorney
and Bellevue DUI lawyer can be of assistance there.
As a whole, since 1970, the median age at first marriage increased from 22.5 years to 28.4 for men and from 20.6 years to 26.5 for women.
Pamela Smock, a sociology professor at the University of Michigan, said the rising median age of first marriage is a reflection in part of the proliferation of new types of family groups, including couples who choose to live together and/or have children outside of marriage.

Treating sports injuries with Prolotherapy and PRP or platelet-rich plasma therapy

I have bad knees from tennis played decades ago. How many baby boomers suffer some form of chronic pain from old sports injuries?
I ran across an article on the Boston Globe’s website, boston.com, under the health section, called, “The Long Run,” by Kay Lazar, posted February 21, 2011 which is relevent for this subject concerning prolotherapy and PRP or Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy.
For his part, Lazar tells the story of 53-year-old West Roxbury resident, Ethan Mascoop’s, whose pain in his left leg was so unremitting, he had basically given up things he loved like taking long walks, working out at the gym, and bowling with his family.
After having slipped on the ice three years ago, partially tearing his Achilles tendon, Mascoop had undergone a series of physical therapy treatments that didn’t help the pain. Then he tried, what Lazar calls, an “unconventional treatment,” in which involved a tiny amount of his own blood was taken and reinjected it into his injured tendon. Within weeks,Lazar reports, the pain had subsided. She notes, “Mascoop, who directs the Framingham health department, was bowling again and planning a trip to the Middle East.”
Lazar quotes Mascoop as saying, “It was an incredible improvement from what I had been living with.’’
The treatment Lazar writes about is platelet-rich plasma therapy, or PRP, a sort of enhanced form of Prolotherapy, a treatment that has been around for decades and is now becoming more popular and mainstream. Prolotherapy is reported to work when many other treatments fail to reduce or eliminate chronic pain in items such as rotator cuff tear, for example..
With legions of baby boomers like Mascoop increasingly reluctant to just take two aspirin and sit it out on the sidelines, specialists say they are grappling with a corresponding phenomenon — a rising tide of chronic, sports-related injuries.
Lazar quotes Mascoop’s physician, Dr. Joanne Borg-Stein, who specializes in rehabilitation and sports medicine at Spaulding Rehabilitation Center in Wellesley, as saying, “We have all these people who have small, partial tears….(like a rotator cuff tear).”
Nowadays, increasingly people want to remain as vigorous and active as they can for as long as they can and this is spurring the development of more and more treatments focused on healing sports injuries.
I wonder if PRP would help my tennis knees?

The Top Cars for Roof Safety

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the cars with a strong roof that offer the best protection in case of a rollover accident are the safest choice, whether you are in San Jose, Oahu or wherever. Cars chosen for the Top Safety pick of this year perform the best in all types of auto accidents. The safest large cars of 2011 are Buick La Crosse, Buick Regal, BMW-5 series( excluding V-8 and 4-wheel drive). The safest small cars are Chevrolet Cruze, Honda Civic and Kia Forte. He safest midsize cars are Audi A3, Audi A4 and Chevrolet Malibu. I have seen a lot of these at the local San Jose Auto Service centers around here and when I was over on Oahu.

With new tougher safety requirements, many brands had to improve their roof strength. Federal statistics show that cars (new or used) with stronger roofs have much lower risk of fatal or serious injury accidents. IIHS standard for rollover protection is twice more tough than current federal standard. For a good IIHS rating the roof has to be able to withstand four times the weight of the car. By the way, this Oahu used cars dealership is outstanding if you happen to be looking for used cars over on Oahu.

In 2010 only 30 models qualified for good safety ratings, in 2011 manufacturers improved their designs and more than 60 models met the new requirements. Every major brand has a car in Top Safety Pick winning category, so the buyers have many options this year. Hyundai and Volkswagen each have ten auto with the high safety ratings and Subaru had winning cars in all categories. Ford Explorer and Ford Fiesta with new roof designs also received top safety ratings.

San Jose:California Planning for Demands of New Green Cars on Power Grids

I just got back from Hawaii to good old San Jose and it is that time to blog…Finally, finally we seem to be moving ahead in moving away from dependence on foreign oil. As the new field of green vehicles gains in acceptance with the American driving public a whole new generation of problems will naturally and inexorably arise with them.
A new piece called, “California Looks To Ensure Power For Electric & Plug-In Cars,” by Justin Cupler, San Francisco Chronicle, writer for the San Francisco Chronicle and contributing writer for “Green Car Reports”
(very popular here in San Jose), posted July 15th, 2011 says, “California has pioneered much of the clean-air legislation in the (nation)….”
All in all, I wonder how this will affect my friends San Jose Auto Service as well as my Nissan service overall.

Cupler notes that when enough residents in a neighborhood convert to plug-in vehicles, it could strain local power grids – specifically, he says, on local transformers. Equipment will have to be upgraded or overloaded transformers could mean power outages. Yikes.
He reports that the California Public Utilities Commission has told local utility companies to work with electric automakers to develop ways to head off blackouts. Neighborhoods most likely to convert to electric or plug-in hybrid cars, says Cupler have been dubbed “Prius clusters.” What about the Nissan? When I was in Hawaii, there were a number of Hawaii Nissan dealerships and service shops for used auto on Oahu, Hawaii that coud be affected by this.
It seems utility companies and automakers are already working together with both General Motors and Nissan giving California utility companies the addresses of Volt and Leaf buyers, with the buyer’s authorization.
Cupler quotes Dan Bowermaster, head of electric vehicle planning for Pacific Gas and Electric Co, as saying, “The grid can handle it” and “It’s just about proper planning.”
Sure, the cost of the upgrades will be passed right along to us, but some of us believe it should be more than worth it.
Wall Street has grown rich and fat over the last thirty years and investment in the future has been starved. It feels good to see the country moving toward green transportation.
